This unique 8-week program is designed to teach mindfulness skills to parents, paying attention to their own well-being in order to resource themselves and enhance parenting capacities. This course can help parents to deal with the unique challenges of parenthood.
It is designed to be accessible to all parents including those who are dealing with multiple-stressed situations e.g. parents of children with disabilities or foster parents. It can be included in parent-carers and foster-parents programmes and taught in children centres, family centres and schools. Several children’s charities e.g. Barnados are running this program to support parents.
It is based on the key concepts found in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program, which is backed by neuroscientific studies. It has been developed over several years by Eluned Gold – Head of CPD Training at the University of Bangor, a leading mindfulness training centre.
Each session lasts 2 hours. The course includes:
- visuals
- simple silent exercises in awareness akin to meditation
- group and teacher-led discussions and activities
- movement-based stretches
- workbook & audios
If you are interested in running this programme, it is highly recommended to arrange a taster session.
